MIAMI (Dec. 20, 2020) – The FIU women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought Sunday matinee to in-state foe Florida Gulf Coast by a score of 86-68.
FIU forward
Emerald Ekpiteta shined on Sunday afternoon with 17 points and 13 rebounds for her second double-double of the young season.
Kyla Nelson and
Diene Diane scored 16 and 11 respectively, to join Ekpiteta in double figures.
Raquel Ferrer-Bernad led all Panthers with seven assists.
The Panthers hung tight with FGCU for most of the game and even held a 16-14 advantage after the first period. The Eagles opened the final frame on a 15-2 run that proved to be the ultimate turning point however, as FGCU earned the 86-68 victory.
To close out non-conference play, FIU will host FGCU once again at Noon ET on Monday, Dec. 21. The game can be streamed on CUSA.tv.
