Panthers Top Penn With Late-Inning Heroics

Rozenblum lifts FIU over Penn

MIAMI (March 8, 2020) - The FIU baseball team downed the Penn Quakers, 6-5, on Sunday afternoon in dramatic fashion with Ben Rozenblum providing a two-out RBI walk-off hit.

FIU Improves to 9-5 on the year, while Penn falls to 3-4.

Freshman Alejandro Torres pitched two clutch scoreless innings out of the bullpen to collect his first career win.

After falling behind 5-2, the Panthers scored four unanswered runs in the final two innings to catapult FIU to a series split.

Francis Villaman got the comeback started with an RBI double down the left field line in the eighth for his first base knock in a Panther uniform. The Villaman double scored Alec Sanchez and cut the Penn lead to 5-3. A Derek Cartaya RBI groundout and a called balk on the Penn pitcher led to Robert Sotolongo scoring the tying run.

Saturday night's hero Justin Farmer got things going in the ninth by muscling a single to left. Juan Teixeira was hit by a pitch to put two Panthers on the base paths before Rozenblum ended the game with a blooper to right.
