HUNTINGTON, West Virginia (Jan. 22, 2021) – The FIU women's basketball team toppled the Marshall Thundering Herd 75-60 on Friday night behind another dynamic shooting performance from the Panthers.
With the win, FIU improves to 7-6 on the season and 4-3 in Conference USA play, which marks the most wins in league play since the 2017-18 season.
As a team, FIU connected 14 times from behind the arc, tying the program record already set earlier this season.
Kyla Nelson led all scorers with 21 points for her third 20-point performance of the season.
Alma Danielsson hit four first-half three-pointers on the way to finishing the night with 15 points.
Fujika Nimmo and
Jiselle Thomas scored 12 and 10 points individually to round out the Panther quartet in double-figures.
Emerald Ekpiteta pulled down 10 rebounds to lead FIU on the boards.
The Panthers came out of the locker room firing on all cylinders opening the game on a 13-0 run and never relinquished the lead for the rest of the night. Marshall threatened in the third quarter, cutting the FIU deficit to six, before Nimmo went on a 9-0 run by herself to end the frame and push the lead back out to 15.
FIU goes for the series sweep on Saturday with tip-off slated for 3 p.m. ET against Marshall. The game can be streamed on CUSA.tv.
