MIAMI (Jan. 27, 2021) – The FIU indoor volleyball team began the season with a match against Jacksonville at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Wednesday afternoon. The Panthers fell to the Dolphins in five sets.
FIU dropped to 0-1 overall this season while JU improved to 1-1. The final score stood at 25-23, 20-25, 25-23, 22-25, 15-10.
As a team, FIU held the 79-68 advantage in digs and a 54-53 edge in kills. Fiorella Murillo led the Panthers with 15 kills, while Yaniris Miller-Green and Emily Meyer posted 11 kills apiece. Meyer also logged 12 digs for her first double-double in the Blue and Gold. Catherine Lederman recorded a team-best 22 assists while Valeria Santos notched 28 digs.
Up next, the Panthers begin Conference USA play by welcoming Old Dominion for a series in the Sunshine State from Feb. 7-8. First serve is set for 1 p.m. ET for both contests.
