MIAMI (Oct. 1, 2021) – The FIU women's soccer team fell to the Charlotte 49ers on Friday night by a score of 4-1 at FIU Soccer Stadium.
The Panthers nearly broke open the scoring in 6th minute when Sydney Amparo crossed a pass into the box for a wide open Noemi Paquin, but Paquin's shot attempt sailed high over the crossbar. The 49ers were able to counter with scores at the 7th and 17th minute-marks to take a two-goal lead over the Panthers.
FIU stayed aggressive and was able to penetrate into the attacking third on multiple possessions. The Panthers finally found their first goal in the 42nd minute, when Courtney Walker dished a pass to Paquin, who shook a couple defenders and fired a scoring strike to cut FIU's deficit in half heading into the break.
The Blue & Gold had a few opportunities for the equalizer in the second half, but Charlotte was able to tack on another two goals in the final 45 minutes to secure the victory.
Paquin scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season, while Walker tallied her first assist in a Panther uniform.
With four games remaining on the Blue & Gold's 2021 schedule, the Panthers now look to regroup before facing two of Conference USA's top teams in North Texas and Western Kentucky over the next two weeks.
The Panthers will play two more at home and two on the road as they attempt to collect conference points ahead of the C-USA tournament. FIU currently sits six points behind Middle Tennessee in the East standings.
