MIAMI (Oct. 30, 2021) – FIU women's soccer team captains
Sydney Amparo and
Camille Sahirul were named to the Conference USA All-Academic first and second teams, the league announced on Friday.
The Panthers were named to the All-Academic teams for their performances on the field and in the classroom. To be eligible, nominees must hold a minimum of a 3.2 GPA, be a starter or key reserve, and be at least a sophomore.
Amparo was named to C-USA All-Academic First Team after earning a perfect 4.0 GPA in her junior year at FIU while majoring in Rehabilitation and Recreational Therapy. In 2021, Amparo started 11 times in her 16 matches played where she led the team in assists with three. Amparo also tallied a team-leading 21 shots on goal out of 31 total shots. Amparo registered her only goal of the season in the match against Florida Gulf Coast (9/1).
Sahirul was named to C-USA All-Academic Second Team, earning a perfect 4.0 GPA in her junior year at FIU while majoring in Rehabilitation and Recreational Therapy as well. On the pitch, Sahirul was a key defender in the FIU backline, and helped FIU shutout opponents three times during the 2021 campaign, including in the victory against conference-leading Old Dominion (10/22). Sahirul led the team in minutes by registering 1,439 while starting in all 16 matches. She added to the FIU attack with four shots with two on target.
