MURFREESBORO, Tennessee (Oct. 9, 2021) – The FIU indoor volleyball team fell in its series finale with Conference USA foe Middle Tennessee at Alumni Memorial Gym on Saturday afternoon. The score from the five set thriller stood at 25-20, 27-29, 25-22, 18-25, 16-14 in favor of the Blue Raiders
With the loss, the Panthers dropped to 3-10 overall and 0-4 in conference play. MT improved to 7-5 this season and 5-1 against league opponents.
FIU posted 61 kills while hitting .235 for the match. The Panthers held the 9-6 advantage in service aces and the 16-9 edge in blocks over the Blue Raiders.
Fiorella Murillo led FIU with 18 kills during the loss. She was one of three FIU players to post double-digit kills with
Giada Bianchi following closely behind with 17 and
Shannon Gormally logging 13 off the bench. Murillo (10) and Bianchi (11) added double-figure digs during the loss, and
Camila De La Rosa recorded a double-double of her own when she notched 44 assists and 10 digs. Defensively,
Myrthe Maring paced the Blue and Gold with nine blocks.
UP NEXT
The Panthers return home for a series against Florida Atlantic from Oct. 15-16. First serve from both matches is slated for 1 p.m.
