Panthers Fall in Weekend Opener To Miners

FIU drops Friday night opener to UTEP

MIAMI (Feb. 12, 2021) – The FIU women's basketball team fell on Friday night to the UTEP Miners by a score of 76-64.

Jiselle Thomas scored a career-high 27 points while grabbing eight rebounds to lead the Panthers in both categories. Fujika Nimmo joined Thomas in scoring double-figures by adding 14 points of her own. Nimmo and Kyla Nelson each hit three treys from distance to lead all Panthers from behind the arc.

The Panthers and Miners played a back-and-forth bucket-trading game that saw FIU cut the UTEP lead to three points late in the third quarter before the Miners ended the frame on a 12-2 run that put them out front for good.

FIU and UTEP conclude the weekend series at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center. The game can be streamed on ESPN+.
