HATTIESBURG, Mississippi (Feb. 19, 2021) - The FIU women's basketball team earned a gutsy road win over Southern Miss on Friday night, as the Panthers topped the Golden Eagles 59-58 in overtime.
With the victory, FIU improves to 10-9 on the year and 7-6 in Conference USA action. The seven league wins are the most ever in FIU's C-USA history.
Despite trailing by seven points entering the fourth quarter, the Panthers outscored the Golden Eagles 15-8 to force overtime on Friday night. FIU trailed by as much as five points with under three minutes left in the overtime period, but rallied once again with a 6-0 run that was capped by two clutch free throws from
Alexus Wykoff to seal the 59-58 victory.
Jiselle Thomas matched her career-high in points with 27 on the night, including nine points from the charity stripe.
Alma Danielsson earned 12 points to round out FIU's double-figure scoring.
Kyla Nelson led the Panthers on the glass, earning eight boards to go along with her seven points.
