FORT MYERS, Florida (Feb. 21, 2021) - The FIU softball team closed out its time in Fort Myers with a win over Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday afternoon, as the Panthers concluded their first road trip of the year.
The Panthers took a 3-2 decision over the Eagles, after falling earlier in the day to Northern Illinois by a score of 3-0.Â
Despite falling behind 1-0 to FGCU, the Panthers bounced back with a two-run RBI in the third inning from
Venessa Gallegos to give FIU the lead.
Makayla Garcia doubled in another run in the fourth frame, as FIU held on to the eventual 3-2 victory.
Brooklynn Linnemann pitched six innings and allowed just two runs to earn her first collegiate victory in the circle.Â
UP NEXT
FIU travels to Clermont, Florida, next weekend as the Panthers take on Kentucky, Stetson and New Mexico State on Feb. 26-27.Â
