MIAMI (Feb. 24, 2021) - Julia Miranda and
Kelsie Campbell of the FIU women's swimming and diving team have been named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon.
FIU stands as the only program in C-USA to have two of its student-athletes grace the league's All-Academic Team. The six-member team was selected by a vote of each institution's academic advisors. In order to qualify for nomination, student-athletes must have achieved at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA and serve as a key competitor of their respective team.Â
Campbell, who owns an undergrad degree in Biochemistry, is pursuing a graduate degree in Public Health and Social Work. She has made the Dean's List every semester at FIU (seven semesters), graduated Summa Cum Laude last fall, and has been a Commissioner's Academic Medal Award recipient every semester at FIU.
In the pool, Campbell won the 100 backstroke A Final at the FGCU Invitational and set a personal-best (55.08) in the event. She also set a personal-best in the 100 butterfly (54.64) at the same invite and took third place. Campbell won the 100 butterfly (56.26) in FIU's dual-meet against FGCU later in the season and finished runner-up in the 100 backstroke (55.95). Campbell has also secured first-place in six relay races throughout the season.
Miranda graduated Magna Cum Laude last spring with a degree in Economics and is now carrying a 4.00 GPA in International Business. She has been named to the Dean's List all three of her semesters at FIU and has been a Commissioner's Academic Medal Award recipient every semester.
Outside of the classroom, Miranda won the 200 backstroke A Final at the FGCU Invitational with a time of 1:59.34 and took second in the 100 butterfly A Final with a mark of 54.25. Miranda recorded a personal best in the 100 freestyle in a dual-meet against Miami (Fla.), after logging a 51.00 in the lead-off leg of the 400 free relay and secured first-place in the 100 backstroke (56.37) at UM. She took home 100 backstroke (56.24) and 200 backstroke (2:03.73) wins in FIU's dual meet against FAU to earn C-USA Athlete of the Week honors on Feb. 3.
