MIAMI (March 17, 2021) - The FIU women's tennis team defeated visiting East Tennessee State on Wednesday afternoon, as the Panthers scored a 6-1 victory from the Buccaneers.
The win on Wednesday gives the program its first 5-0 start since 1994. The Panthers began that season 14-0.

FIU once again opened the match by taking the doubles point, as the 59th-ranked pair of
Kamila Umarova and
Basak Akbas earned a 6-3 victory before
Andjela Skrobonja and
Andreea Velcea clinched the point with a 7-5 win. Both doubles pairs are now 3-0 on the year.
Skrobonja, Velcea and Akbas all earned straight-set wins in singles play, before the Bucs scored their lone victory of the day on court six. Umarova downed her fellow countrywoman at the No. 1 spot in a 6-4, 7-6(4) contest before
Marina Alcaide closed out the match with a three-set win to cap the 6-1 victory for FIU.
Alcaide and Velcea are both 5-0 now in singles play, while Umarova also stays unbeaten at 4-0.
