NORFOLK, Virginia (March 28, 2021) – On a blustery day in Virginia, the FIU baseball team fell 16-9 to the Old Dominion Monarchs in Sunday's series finale.
Justin Farmer paced the Panthers offensively, as he blasted his third homer of the season to tie for the team lead. Playing DH, Farmer collected two hits, two RBI and scored twice on Sunday.
Dante Girardi earned his first three-hit performance as a Panther, while
Derek Cartaya added two more hits to the FIU total on Sunday.
ODU scored nine runs in the bottom half of the first, before Farmer's solo shot off the scoreboard in the second inning made it 9-1 heading to the third.
FIU rallied to score eight runs in the third frame, highlighted by
Adrian Figueroa's RBI single that extends his hitting streak to seven games, as the Panthers tied the game at nine-all.
The Monarchs took back the lead for good the next half inning, after scoring three in the bottom of the third as ODU went on to win 16-9.
UP NEXT
FIU returns home on Wednesday, March 31, as the Panthers host Miami (FL) at 7 p.m. The contest will kick off a five-game homestand that will run over a four-day span.
