HUNTINGTON, West Virginia (April 17, 2021) - Steven Casey became the first FIU baseball player since 2011 to throw a no-hitter, as the righty had a dominating day on the mound against the Marshall Thundering Herd. Overall, the no-hitter is just the sixth in program history at FIU and the first among C-USA pitchers this season.
Saturday's doubleheader featured a pair of seven-inning games, with Casey's no-hitter giving the righty his third win of the season.
"Steven was on from the start of the game," head coach Mervyl Melendez said. "He threw every pitch with intent and you could see from the start that he was on. We're very proud of him."
The Panthers won 5-0 behind the no-hitter, as the Panthers scored all five of their runs in the sixth inning, with Adrian Figueroa's single making it 1-0 before Seth Cannady hit his first-career grand slam and made it 5-0.
