TUCSON, Arizona (April 19, 2021) – FIU's
Steven Casey was named to
Collegiate Baseball's National Players of the Week list, following his no-hitter this past Saturday.
Casey was named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week earlier on Monday, prior to the national publication announcing. The conference and national honors are both firsts for Casey, while he becomes the first Panther pitcher to receive a national honor since
Logan Allen in 2019.
The righty logged a no-hitter on Saturday at Marshall, becoming the first Panther pitcher to earn a no-hitter since Kyle Fitzpatrick on March 2, 2011. Additionally, it was the first solo no-hitter by a C-USA pitcher since 2005.
Casey struck out four on Saturday, while getting 13 flyouts and four groundouts as he finished off the seven-inning, no-hitter.
On the season, Casey is 3-2 with a 3.82 ERA in 10 appearances on the mound with five starts in 2021.
