MIAMI (April 21, 2021) – Behind the resurgent bat of
Ben Rozenblum, the FIU baseball team topped the Stetson Hatters 7-6 in the final home midweek of 2021.
Jan Figueroa picked up this second win of the season after pitching 1.2 shutout innings of relief.
Angel Tiburcio picked up a six-out save, which is the big righty's third of the campaign.
Rozenblum and
Justin Farmer paced the Panther offense after driving in six of the seven FIU runs on the evening, while
Alec Sanchez added a base knock and a run scored in his first game action since the Old Dominion series that opened up C-USA play.
On a night that saw plenty of back and forth action, Stetson plated a pair in third before back-to-back RBI singles from Rozenblum and
Luis Chavez tied it at 2-all after four complete innings.
FIU and Stetson traded runs in the fifth before the visitors eventually took a 6-3 lead that set up a dramatic Panther comeback in the home half of the seventh.
The rally started when
Humberto Torres worked a leadoff walk that was followed by a
Steven Ondina single. Farmer drove in Torres with a base knock of his own to right that set the stage for the man of the night. Rozenblum smashed a no-doubt three-run homer on the first pitch he saw and gave FIU a one-run lead.
Tiburcio handled the rest, while striking out a pair of Hatters for the final two outs of the game to seal the FIU victory.
UP NEXT
FIU will begin its home-and-home series against FAU with the Owls coming to Miami on April 23-25 and the Panthers traveling to Boca Raton on April 30-May 2.
