ATLANTA (April 22, 2021) – The Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) announced its postseason honors and awards on Thursday. Four FIU beach volleyball players received honors following an impressive 2021 campaign for the Panthers.
The dynamic duo of
Federica Frasca and
Roberta Ribeiro were named to the CCSA All-Conference Team. This marks Frasca's third award and Riberio's first from the league. The pair went 21-5 during the regular season including a 20-4 mark on court one and a 1-1 record on court two. The pair picked up six wins over ranked teams including then-ranked No. 3 FSU, No. 9 TCU, No. 11 Stetson and No. 20 Florida Gulf Coast.
Paige Kalkhoff took home CCSA All-Freshman Team honors following a stellar first year in the Blue and Gold. The Cincinnati native went 23-3 during the regular season with veteran partner
Abbie Hughes. On courts three and four, the duo was undefeated during the regular season, boasting an 18-0 record. Kalkhoff and Hughes tallied an impressive seven victories against ranked opponents, including wins FSU, Florida Atlantic, FGCU, and Stetson.
For the fourth time in her career,
Lina Bernier was named to the CCSA All-Academic Team. The San Juan, Puerto Rico, native held a 3.78 GPA while majoring in biomedical engineering. In the sand, Bernier went 25-3 during the regular season with partners
Gina Lipscomb and
Ali Denney. Bernier posted a combined 4-0 record on courts one and two. She posted a 16-2 mark on court three, a 5-1 record on court four, and seven victories against ranked opponents.
The 12
th-ranked Panthers prepare for the CCSA Championships beginning Friday, April 23. FIU comes into the tournament as the third seed in the blue bracket with the team's first match against ULM set for 11:30 a.m. ET from John Hunt Park.
