MIAMI (April 24, 2021) – The FIU baseball team split its double dip with the FAU Owls on Saturday, as the Panthers bounced back and took the second game 6-5.
Jan Figueroa picked up his third win of the season, tossing two innings of relief after being handed a four-run lead by the Panther bats.
Angel Tiburcio earned his fourth save of the season after pitching two shutout innings.
The visitors from Boca Raton scratched across a run in the first before the Panther bats exploded for five runs in the second, all coming with two outs.
An FAU fielding error began the rally that saw
Mario Zabala score on a balk call before FIU took the lead on a dropped third strike that saw
Steven Ondina cross home.
Derek Cartaya homered for the second time in as many days to make it 4-1 Panthers.
Seth Cannady drove in
Adrian Figueroa for the fifth Panther run of the frame to go up 5-1.
After FAU cut the lead to 5-4,
Justin Farmer homered for the second time on Saturday, in what proved to be the game-winning hit as FIU won 6-5.

FIU and FAU will conclude the series on Sunday, with first pitch slated for Noon.
