MIAMI (Sep. 1, 2021) – A late surge by the FIU women's soccer team was cut short on Wednesday night, as the Panthers fell to the FGCU Eagles by a score of 3-2 in Miami.
The Panthers were quick to get on the board in the 3rd minute of action, when
Nikole Solis forced an Eagles' turnover, then drove up the field and fired a strike into the back of the net to give FIU an early advantage. FGCU answered back with two goals of their own before the break to retake the lead. The Panthers had five shot attempts, including two on-goal, compared to the Eagles' six attempts in the opening period.
Trailing 3-1 after the intermission, the Panthers surged back in the final minutes when
Jessica Magerman set up
Sydney Amparo for a score in the 85
th minute, bringing the Panthers within only a goal. The Blue & Gold pressed on and fought till the very end, but the comeback was cut short as FIU ran out of time to equalize.
Solis claimed her first goal in a Panther uniform, while Amparo notched her first of the 2021 campaign. Magerman logged her first assist of the season.
Between the posts,
Casey Kane started her first match for FIU and recorded three saves on 10 shots faced.
The strong center-back duo of
Carmen Marin and
Reagan Bridges continued their streak of playing every minute of every match this season.
Deborah Bien-Aime and Kane each logged a full 90-minutes as well.

The FIU Panthers will close out their final match of a four-game homestand on Sunday, Sept. 5, when they welcome the Murray State Racers to Miami. Game time is scheduled for Noon ET.
