MIAMI (Sep. 5, 2021) – The FIU women's soccer team out shot a tough Murray State squad on Sunday afternoon at home, but the Blue & Gold fell in the end by a score of 2-1 against the Racers.
 
After allowing a goal to Murray State in 7th minute of action, FIU found its offensive rhythm and eclipsed the Racers in the shot column by a margin of 10 to five in the opening period. The Panthers saw several opportunities with three shots on-goal but were unable to find an equalizer before the break. 
 
FIU increased its offensive pressure after the intermission and in the 47th minute, Sydney Amparo was able to connect with Courtney Walker for a score off a counter-attack. FIU's lead didn't last long however, as the Racers answered back on a set piece header following a corner kick in the 58th minute. The Panthers continued to attack and fight for an equalizer, winning the second half shot margin by a total of 9-6, but the second goal never came for FIU as time expired.

Walker scored her first goal of the 2021 season, while Amparo recorded a team-leading third assist. On the day, FIU led in shots-on-goal by a tally of 11-5. Walker, Amparo, and Noemi Paquin all led FIU in shots-on-goal with two apiece.
 
The Panthers' backline continues to anchor FIU, with Carmen Marin and Reagan Bridges recording another full 90-minutes in the match.

Casey Kane saved three shots in her second straight start between the posts for the Panthers.

FIU makes the short trip to face a cross-town foe next week, when the Panthers see the Miami Hurricanes in Coral Gables on Thursday, Sept. 9. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.
