Women’s Soccer Earns Draw Versus Marshall

Panthers played Thundering Herd to a stalemate in defensive match

HUNTINGTON, West Virginia  (Sept. 24, 2021) – The Panthers had a defensive stalemate at Marshall that ends in a scoreless draw on Friday night. Both teams finished the match tied in the shot chart at 16 apiece.

FIU opened Conference USA play with three straight overtime matches, with two straight ending in ties.

FIU's third conference matchup started with the Panthers backline holding the Herd to five shots in the first half. The impressive play of Ithaisa Vinoly posted two saves as the Panthers went into the intermission.

Following the break, the Panthers began to pickup the offensive attack. Noemi Paquin was hunting for the ice breaker as she was fouled in the box which led to a penalty kick by Laia Muñoz Danon. However, the Blue & Gold were unable to find the back of the net.

The Panthers continued the strong defensive performance with the play of Reagan Bridges heading away multiple shot attempts on goal by the Herd. Additionally, Vinoly recorded four more saves in the second period, helping FIU keep the Herd off the board and headed into extra time. But the defensive clash carried into the overtime periods with neither team finding the golden goal.

Muñoz Danon finished with a season-high seven shot attempts with three on goal.

Vinoly tallied her second clean-sheet of the season as she saved eight shots on the night. The draw marks three-straight matches with at least eight saves for Vinoly.
