Women’s Soccer Hosts Charlotte at Home on Friday

Panthers welcome 49ers for second C-USA home contest

MIAMI (Sept. 30, 2021) – The FIU women's soccer team will host the Charlotte 49ers this Friday, Oct. 1. The contest will be the Panthers' second Conference USA matchup at home.
 
Opening kick is schedule for 7 p.m. ET at FIU Soccer Stadium.

MATCHUP PREVIEW
The Panthers are coming off three straight overtime contests to open C-USA  play, with FIU posting a 0-1-2 record in that span. FIU's last outing resulted in a defensive battle against Marshall with the Panthers playing to a scoreless draw. The 49ers own a 5-4-1 record, including a 1-1-1 mark in league play. Charlotte's last match resulted in a 1-1 tie against FAU, who the Panthers also played to a 1-1 draw.

SCOUTING THE 49ERS
The 49ers' goal differential is a mirror image of the Panthers through the first three conference matches. Charlotte is averaging one goal-per-game while allowing 1.33 goals-per-game to its opponents, which are marks owned by FIU. The 49ers have fired off 41 shot-attempts this seasons to FIU's 43. The 49ers have two players that have scored at least three goals this season in midfielders Macey Bader and Piper Biziorek.

Between the pipes, Charlotte goalkeeper Abby Stapleton has started eight games and owns a 3-4-1 record with two clean sheets. The 49ers' keeper has tallied 11 saves during C-USA play on 33 shots faced, while allowing four goals.
 
FIU BY THE NUMBERS
Junior Ithaisa Vinoly is the conference leader in saves per match, averaging 5.57. Vinoly also ranks fifth overall in C-USA for save percentage, posting a .831 mark.
 
Noemi Paquin has recorded two goals and 10 shot attempts through FIU's first three conference matches, which is tied for first and second-most within C-USA play, respectively.

As a team, the Blue & Gold has fired off 43 shot attempts during C-USA play, which ranks third overall in the league. Nineteen of FIU's shot attempts have come on-goal, which ranks sixth in C-USA. For the season, FIU has already recorded its most shot attempts (153) since the 2015 campaign.
 
Freshman defender Reagan Bridges has been a mainstay in FIU's backline, tallying 11 starts this season. The Colorado native has already cracked the thousand-minute mark with a team-high 1,058 minutes-played. Carman Marin ranks second on the team with 1,039 minutes in 11 starts.
 
UP NEXT
FIU will hit the road to face North Texas next Friday, Oct. 8, when the Panthers travel to battle the Mean Green in FIU's second-to-last away contest of the regular season. First kick is set for 7 p.m. ET in Denton, Texas.
