PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Oct. 5, 2022) – (RV) Men's Soccer was on the road, Wednesday night, to take on American Athletic Conference foe Temple, taking down the Owls, 3-0.
In the 10th minute, captain
David Garcia came up with two goal saving plays. He first cleared a ball destined for goal off the line then followed that up with a key block moments later to keep the score tied.
The Panthers quickly responded taking the lead in the 11th minute.
Carlos Scheckermann won a 50/50 ball deep in Temple territory, getting the ball to the feet of
Bernardo Dos Santos Monteiro. Dos Santos Monteiro then took a few touches before hitting a curled shot that found the inside of the far post.
FIU's continued high press stifled Temple the rest of the half as the Panthers would go into halftime ahead, 1-0.
Dos Santos Monteiro would earn his brace in the 59th minute. He would go on a great run, beating his defender and eventually being taken down in the box and awarded a penalty. The sophomore would then step up to the spot and convert the chance to bring the advantage to 2-0.
Three minutes later the score would jump to 3-0. A cross would be misplayed by the Temple keeper and eventually land at the feet of
Matteo Gasperoni who took a shot off the bounce and put it into the back of the net.
FIU would come close to a fourth goal a number of times and came away with an another conference victory at the end of the night.

The Panthers return to Miami for an in-state showdown with UCF, Sunday, October 9. Kickoff from FIU Soccer Stadium is set for 6 p.m. ET.
