MIAMI (Oct. 9, 2022) – (RV) Men's Soccer took on UCF, Sunday night, at FIU Soccer Stadium, falling to the Knights, 3-1.
It was a physical and action packed first half between the Panthers and UCF.
After sustained FIU pressure UCF was able to launch a counterattack in the 25th minute. The Knights would draw a penalty and convert to take a 1-0 lead.
The Panthers constant press would pay off in the 34th minute. After multiple blocked shots, the ball fell in the path of
Philip Hildebrandt who hit a shot from well outside the box beating the diving keeper at the bottom right corner to tie the match at 1-1.
In the dying second of the first half a scramble in front of the FIU goal would eventually lead to a goal to put the Knights ahead, 1-2.
The Panthers came out in the second half with same intensity, applying pressure throughout and always looking to score goals.
FIU nearly equalized just five minutes into the half when
Rasmus Tobinski intercepted a pass off the UCF keeper and nearly chipped the keeper who was well off his line.
Three minutes later, Tobinski,
Julien Gastaldy and
Bernardo Dos Santos Monteiro all got shots off in quick succession but couldn't find the back of the net.
The Panthers attack would not relent but in the 77th minute it would lead to another counterattack for the Knights. With the defense stretched, UCF was able to score to push the advantage to 3-1.
FIU would keep pushing and create more chances but eventually fell to UCF, 3-1.
