MIAMI (March 5, 2022) – FIU baseball fell to visiting UCONN on Saturday night by a score of 9-1.
By the time
Jayden Melendez stepped to the plate in the home half of the fifth, the Huskies had built a 6-0 advantage with a trio of runs in the third and fourth innings.
With a 0-2 count to lead off the bottom of the fifth, Melendez lifted a solo shot over the left field wall for his first home run in a Panthers uniform.
Matthew Gonzalez led FIU with a pair of base knocks and a stolen base on the night.
Jonah Ravelo collected his first-career hit on Saturday night with a pinch-hit single in the ninth.
Following the Melendez homer, UCONN added a run in the seventh and a pair in the ninth for 9-1 final.

The series finale between FIU and UCONN is slated for Noon on Sunday.
