GAINESVILLE, Fla (April 16, 2022) - Two school records and six personal bests highlighted FIU's weekend at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational in Gainesville this weekend.
Rhema Otabor reset her own school record in the javelin, throwing 56.25m to place second, which is also currently the third best mark in the NCAA.
In the pole vault,
Kayden Cecil set a personal best of 4.92m, surpassing Sean Young's mark of 4.90m set at the Golden Knights Twilight in 2006.
"I'd say we had a pretty good weekend," said head coach
Ryan Heberling. "We still have a ton more in the tank. Most of our athletes are just starting to hit their stride."
Elsewhere for FIU, the Panthers saw personal bests from
Ethan Riley in the pole vault,
Qua'liyyah Taylor in the discus,
Disner Moreno in the 800, and Damon Daniels in the 110 hurdles.
Next up for the Panthers is the Virginia Challenge, taking place in Charlottesville next weekend.
