LYNCHBURG, Va.– A solid day two at the Conference USA Indoor Track & Field Championships saw FIU women's track & field take home a third-place finish at the event, accruing 81.6 team points for third.
One of two medals during day two was
Danielle McGonigle in the triple jump, who defended her gold medal by once again winning with a personal-best jump of 12.67m. McGonigle had an outstanding weekend, recording personal bests in the 800m (2:37.12), long jump (5.88m) and the pentathlon (3501). It was the second and final gold for the Panthers, joining
Kylie Neira, who did so the previous day in the pole vault.
Amaya Bien-Aime claimed the silver in the high jump, finishing with a mark of 1.74m. It was the third silver of the weekend for FIU, joining
Janiya Cesar (weight throw) and
Itsaso Madariaga Huegun (pentathlon).
Neira took home freshman of the meet honors for her performance, capping a stellar indoor freshman season.

The team's 81.6 points placed them far and away in third place at the championship. The Panthers will have a week off before heading to Fayetteville, Ark. for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
