Â
The Panthers look to even its record in their final nonconference match of the season prior to heading into Conference USA action, as FIU travels in hopes of snapping a 10-game losing streak to the Eagles, while also searching for its first win in Fort Myers since 2010.
Â
Sophomore forward
Nikole Solis continues her magic for the Panthers, having notched five of FIU's last eight goals over the past three games. Solis leads the Conference USA and 13th in the NCAA for goals (5), while the Boca Raton, Fla. native leads the nation in shot accuracy with a .909 shot-on-goal percentage on 11 shots.
Â
Additionally, Solis' three-match scoring streak marks the first for a Panther since Scarlett Montoya in 2015.
Â
Solis' streak would have extended to four matches after pouring in two goals within the first 10 minutes of action versus Alabama A&M on Wednesday, though, the match was deemed a no contest after extensive weather delays in Miami. Freshman
Kim Schneider also tacked in a goal for the 3-0 margin prior to the delay and eventual no contest in the 22
nd minute, as
Farah El Tayar recorded helpers on two of the scores. Â
Â
Among the team's point leaders,
Dominique Marcelli follows with four points (1 goal, 2 assists) after recording assists in each of the past two matches, while
Catherine Rapp (2G),
Noemi Paquin (1G, 1A) and
Delinda Sehlin (1G) follow.
Farah El Tayar,
Reagan Bridges,
Chinatsu Kaio and
Idelys Vazquez have also recorded assists on the season.
Â
LAST TIME:
The Eagles narrowly came away with a 3-2 win at FIU Soccer Stadium last season on Sept. 1, 2021.
Nikole Solis notched her first career goal in the 2
nd minute, though, FGCU built a two-goal cushion after goals in the 8
th, 34
th and 52
nd minute, 3-1.
Sydney Amparo pitched in a late goal in the 85
th to make it close, though, FGCU would edge the Panthers for the win by the end of regulation.
Â
SCOUTING FGCU:
In its last match against No. 8 Florida State, FGCU hung with the defending national champions for the first 45 minutes as the game remained scoreless at the break. However, a big second half from FSU turned to game into a one-sided affair, 5-0.
The Eagles will be looking to make it three straight wins at home as they have taken down FAU and Southern in their previous two contests in Fort Myers. The Green and Blue picked up their first shutout of the season against the Owls as seniorÂ
Grace Paradis scored in the 89th minute to give the Eagles the 1-0 victory. With her six saves in goal, graduate studentÂ
Katie Sullivan was named ASUN Goalkeeper of the Week. On the season, juniorÂ
Louise Lillback leads the team with seven points on three goals and an assist.
Â
In addition to Lillback leading the Eagles in goals, sophomoreÂ
Ashley Labbe has also contributed with two goals and two assists while Scarpelli has a team-high three assists. Paradis, freshmanÂ
Kate Russell, and redshirt-freshmanÂ
Lindsey Saad have also found the back of the net this season.
Â
Series lead: FGCU leads 12-1-1
