Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Pair of Early Tallies by Eduardo Mustre Lead No. 24 Men’s Soccer in 2-0 Shutout of Charlotte

Win clinches berth for Panthers in 2023 American Athletic Conference Championship

MIAMI – FIU junior forward Eduardo Mustre tabbed a pair of goals in the opening 23 minutes of the contest to lead the No. 24 FIU men's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout win over Charlotte on Friday night in Miami.

The victory marked the Panthers seventh in their last nine matches overall and clinched a berth in the upcoming 2023 American Athletic Conference Championship.

Mustre notched the first tally of the contest just 4:12 into the action when he banged a shot home to the bottom left corner following a set up by Diego Castillo and Edgar Aguilar.

The Panthers (9-3-3, 5-1-1 AAC) stretched the lead to 2-0 at 22:16 when Mustre added his second goal of the contest and 11th of the season with a shot that found the top right corner of the net.  Bernardo Dos Santos Monteiro and Joao Domingues assisted on the score.

Mustre's 11 goals in 2023 are the most by a Panther in a single season since 2018 – and he has logged a pair of multi-goal efforts this season – having previously scored a pair at Oregon State on Aug. 24.

The FIU defense was stout throughout as it limited the 49ers to just a lone shot on goal over the 90 minutes en route to posting the team's fifth shutout of the season and second in last three matches overall.

Friday's match also marked the program's annual Senior Night – which saw Matthias Lavenant, Fumiya Shiraishi, Paulo Alves, Andrew Bennett, Tim Schels, Julian Hodek and Simon Afrifa honored in a pre-match ceremony.
