TULSA, Okla – On the road Wednesday night, the #22 FIU Men's Soccer team earned a 2-2 against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in the regular season finale, ending the season as the third seed in the AAC.
FIU (9-3-4) trailed 1-0 heading into the half, before netting a pair of goals early in the second half to take the lead. Yet, in the 76
th minute, Tulsa tallied a penalty kick goal to end the night in a draw.
The Golden Hurricane took control first in the 37
th minute on a goal by Mike Eijgendaal, giving Tulsa the edge after the first 45.
Into the second half, just four minutes in,
Bernardo Dos Santos Monteiro found the net off a ball that sailed over the goalie for his sixth goal of the season off an assist from
Philip Hildebrandt.
FIU continued to push forward as in the 60
th minute,
Fumiya Shiraishi ripped a ball from well outside the 18 to secure the second goal for the Panthers, in addition to his second score of the season.
Tulsa responded back as their leading goal scorer, Sergio Baena, tied up the match on a penalty kick in the 76
th minute.
On the night, FIU rattled off 21 shots, including 13 on goal, with
Eduardo Mustre leading in SOGs with four.
In net, goalkeeper
Tyler Hogan notched a pair of saves on the road.
UP NEXT
FIU will look ahead to the AAC Tournament, that begins on Nov. 5 for first round action as the No. 3 seed hosting No. 6 Florida Atlantic at FIU Soccer Stadium.
