MIAMI, Fla - The FIU women's basketball team (2-2) fell 70-66 to Coppin State at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center Saturday afternoon.
It was a close contest throughout the game, with the first quarter ending in a 14-14 ballgame. Coppin State pulled away in the second quarter, taking advantage of FIU turnovers with hot-hand shooting, going 8-14 in the quarter including 50% from behind the arc. FIU would be down by 11 at the half.
FIU stormed back at the start of the second half, going on a 14-2 run to start the third quarter. Senior Ajae Yoakum would put up 10 points in the quarter, going 5-7 from the field and boosting the Panthers to a 29-point third quarter. FIU went down to the Eagles in the fourth quarter, falling short in the afternoon.
Yoakum delivered a stellar game for the Panthers, logging 19-points, 11-rebound, her third double-double donning the Blue and Gold. Graduate student Courtney Prenger scored 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting and 3-for-3 from beyond the arch;.
Eight Panthers scored out of the 10 that were run out onto the court. FIU has played 10 or more players in every game so far this season.

The Panthers will host the FIU Thanksgiving Tournament starting Friday, November 24th. They will play the first game of the event, going up against Bryant University at noon at Oceanbank Convocation Center. FIU will also welcome Tennessee State and William & Mary to the weekend long tournament.
