MIAMI – FIU women's soccer coach
Jonathan Garbar has signed a contract extension that will have him leading the Panthers through the 2027 season, FIU athletics director Scott Carr announced on Thursday.
"I couldn't more be more thrilled for Coach Garbar to continue to lead our women's soccer program," Carr said. "The program has demonstrated consistent progress each year under the leadership of Coach Garbar. I look forward to the future with him at the helm."
Garbar has led FIU since the 2021 campaign and guided the Panthers to a berth in the 2023 Conference USA Championship.
"I am sincerely appreciative and honored to have earned the trust and confidence of Director of Athletics Scott Carr and the FIU community," Garbar said. "Scott's ambitious vision and unwavering commitment to the women's soccer program is both inspiring and directly aligned with the standards and values of our players and coaches. Furthermore, I am deeply grateful for the tireless sacrifice and unconditional love of my family."
"We are in the midst of a truly special time in our program's history," Garbar added. "It's important to recognize that the progress being witnessed today, is a direct result of the steadfast belief and impressive efforts of all who have consistently supported and driven the program. I am passionate about the opportunity to continue building on this exciting journey together while developing greatness and actualizing the limitless potential of our organization. We're just getting started."
The 2023 campaign was one of the most successful seasons for FIU as a member of Conference USA. The Panthers posted the program's highest winning percentage since 2012. They also qualified for the conference tournament for the first time since the 2012 season.
FIU excelled on both ends of the pitch in 2023 as it logged 36 goals, the most in its 11 seasons in CUSA and the program's top overall mark since 2012. The Panthers' average of 2.11 goals per game led the conference in 2023.
Last season also saw FIU limit its opponents to the fewest total of goals in a single campaign since joining Conference USA.
FIU earned a program record seven all-conference honors in 2023, including
Noemi Paquin's selection to the All-CUSA First Team.
Under Garbar's supervision, the Panthers have excelled in the classroom, posting an overall team grade point average of 3.61 for the 2023 Spring Semester and recently a total of three players were honored with selection to the CUSA All-Academic Team.
Garbar and the Panthers will begin training for the 2024 campaign beginning in the spring semester.
