FIU Women’s Hoops Drops Road Contest Against Rice, 67-58

Kaliah Henderson led all players with 27 points

Houston, TX.– Senior guard Kaliah Henderson was one point shy of tying her career high finishing with 27 points, though, the FIU Women's Basketball team fell to Rice (17-6, 8-6 C-USA), 67-58, at Tudor Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.
 
The loss drops FIU's record to 12-12 on the season and 7-8 in Conference USA action, as the Owls have now won back to back games at home this week and remain in fourth place in the C-USA standings.
 
Henderson shot 43 percent from the field (9-21), was 8-8 from the foul line and second on the Panthers with five rebounds. She has now scored in double figures in 10 straight games and 13 of the last 14. During the two-game road trip, Henderson averaged 27.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and was 14-14 from the charity stripe.

Sophomore guard Tanajah Hayes was second on the Panthers with 13 points after recording 13 the previous game against LA Tech. Hayes shot 6-13 from the field and chipped in four rebounds.

FIU held Rice to 29 percent from the three-point range (4-14), though, outscored the Panthers in the paint 36-20 and in second chance points (14-2). The Owls forced 20 turnovers and finished with nine steals and scored 21 points of FIU's turnovers.
 
The Owls had two players record double figure points led by senior forward India Bellamy with 20 points. Bellamy paced the Owls with six rebounds, four blocks and three steals and was one point away from tying her career high. Sophomore forward Malia Fisher was right behind Bellamy with 19 points, five rebounds and shot 73 percent from the field (8-11).

UP NEXT
The Panthers will have a full week off from games and will resume action the following Saturday, Feb. 18 as they return to the Ocean Bank Convocation Center to host Middle Tennessee State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. ET and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
