MIAMI (Feb. 18, 2023) – Baseball hosted George Mason on Saturday in the second game of a three-game series, taking down the Patriots, 3-2. This marks head coach
Rich Witten's first win as a Panther and as a head coach.
A RBI single by junior
Ryne Guida in the bottom of the seventh lifted the Panthers to victory in what was a pitchers' duel. Redshirt senior
Mike Rosario earned his second-consecutive RBI with junior
Adrian Figueroa earning his first of the season.
The trio of redshirt senior
Christian Santana, junior
Richie Pena and junior
Cameron Knox each threw three scoreless innings, allowed only four hits and combined for six strikeouts on the night.
The game opened with five scoreless innings as both pitching staffs were on target.
The stalemate was broken in the bottom of the sixth as FIU jumped out to a 2-0 lead. A leadoff double by redshirt senior
Alec Sanchez sparked the Panther offense as Figueroa and Rosario would drive in a run each.
George Mason responded immediately, scoring two runs of their own in in the top of the seventh.
The Panthers would retake the lead in the next half inning on a clutch RBI single to deep left by Guida, scoring redshirt junior
Noel Perez from second.
Knox would shut the door on the Patriots in the final two innings to secure his first win as a Panther.
