MIAMI (Feb. 24, 2023) – Baseball hosted Missouri in game two of a four game series on Friday night falling to the Tigers, 5-2.
Junior
Adrian Figueroa delivered a two-run single for a second consecutive game. Redshirt senior
Alec Sanchez collected his 10th hit of the season and has registered at least one hit in all six of the Panthers' games in 2023.
FIU relievers
Richie Pena and
Daniel McAuliff pitched a combined 6.2 innings, gave up only three hits, allowed no runs and struck out seven Tigers.
Missouri opened the scoring in the top of the third inning pushing home five total runs, including a grand slam.
The Panthers would punch back in the bottom of the fourth with two runs of their own.
Sanchez led the inning off with a sharpy hit single through the right side. Junior
Dante Girardi would follow up with a single of his own and junior
Ryne Guida drew a walk to load the bases. Figueroa stepped up and put a ball into right field scoring Sanchez and Girardi to cut the Missouri lead to 5-2.
The next five frames saw a pitcher's duel, as neither side would allow another run to score.
Pena took over in the bottom of the third and would go on to throw 3.2 scoreless inning with four strikeouts.
McAuliff took the mound in the seventh inning and delivered three scoreless innings of his own to close out the game, striking out four along the way.

FIU is back at FIU Baseball Stadium for game three against Missouri on Saturday February 25 with first pitch set for 5:00 p.m.
