MIAMI (Feb. 26, 2023) – Baseball closed out a four-game series with Missouri on Sunday, losing out, 9-5.
In the batter's box, junior
Ryne Guida went 2-4 on the day, scoring two runs with two doubles. Junior
Dante Girardi drove home a run for a second consecutive game for his third RBI of the season.
Missouri went ahead, 3-0, after hitting home runs in the first and second innings.
The FIU bats came alive in sixth with three hits and three runs.
Girardi got the scoring going with a RBI single up the middle to get the Panthers on the board. Guida followed up with a two-run shot to deep center field to cut the Tiger's lead to 4-3.
Missouri added four runs in the top of the seventh to push their advantage to 8-3.
The Panthers would rally again, scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth.
With two on and no outs, sophomore
Marcus O'Malley came in as a pinch hitter and promptly sent the ball off the right center field wall to score two, making the score 8-5.
Missouri would score one more run in the top of the ninth and win the game, 9-5.
UP NEXT
FIU hits the road for the first time on Tuesday February 28 to take on cross-state rivals Florida Gulf Coast University. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
