Baseball Defeats Marist in Comeback Fashion, 16-14

Panthers scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth

MIAMI (Mar. 11, 2023) – Baseball played game two of its weekend series against Marist on Saturday taking the game, 16-14. The Panthers have now won seven games in a row, a feat last achieved in the 2020 season.

It was another impressive performance by redshirt senior Mike Rosario. The outfielder went 4-6, with seven RBI and a stolen base. He has now hit in nine straight games and logged multiple hits in seven games.

Junior Steven Ondina put in a strong performance at the plate picking up two hits, two RBI and crossing home plate three times.

As has been the case all series, the scoring started early for both teams.

FIU put up five runs in the bottom of the second inning to go up 5-2.

Ronny Medina tied the game with a RBI single. Ondina then put the Panthers ahead with an RBI triple.

Rosario picked up the first of his seven RBI with a single through the right side. Ryne Guida and Adrian Figueroa would close out the high-scoring inning with a RBI each.

The two sides would then trade runs over the next two innings with FIU up, 10-4, after six.

Marist put together its own five-run inning in the top of the seventh to come within one of the Panthers. They then scored four more in the eighth to take a 13-10 lead.

The Panthers responded with a six-run inning to jump back in the lead, 16-13.

A walk for Henry Wallen and two-consecutive hit-by-pitches loaded the bases. Rosario then delivered a two-run single to spark the comeback. Noel Perez followed that up with a RBI bunt single to tie the game.

A Guida two-run double and a Figueroa groundout would push the Panther advantage to 16-13 headed into the final inning.

Marist would score one more run but FIU would hold to win the game and take the series.
