MIAMI (Mar. 24, 2023) – Baseball hosted Alabama-Birmingham for the first of three games on Friday, falling to the Blazers, 15-5.
Freshman
Roylan Quevedo made his career debut against UAB going 1-4 with a RBI, a run scored and three fielding assists.
Junior
Dante Girardi extended his hit streak to 13 games with a 1-4 performance against the Blazers.
UAB opened the scoring in the top of the second, pushing one run home, but the Panthers responded with two of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
FIU opened the inning with two hits and a fielder's choice to put runners at second and third with only one out. Quevedo stepped up for his first collegiate at bat and promptly sent the first pitch down the left field line to score his first-career RBI.
Brenden Roney followed him with an RBI single of his own to put the Panthers ahead, 2-1.

Ruben Carpio solo home run in the third would make the FIU advantage 3-1.
Both teams would score in the fourth with FIU staying ahead 5-2 after Carpio drove in two with a single to right field.
UAB would responded with nine runs in the top of the fifth and eventually won, 15-5.
