MIAMI, Fla. – The 38
th-ranked FIU women's tennis team has been slated the No. 1 seed for this weekend's 2023 Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship, as announced by the league office, with six of 11 teams playing in first-round matches, hosted by North Texas, in Denton, Texas. The Panthers earn a first-round bye to face the winner of No. 8 UTSA-No. 9 UAB on Friday, April 21.
The four-day event, hosted by North Texas, opens with three matches on Thursday beginning at 12 p.m. CT.
The No. 1 seed FIU, No. 2 Charlotte, No. 3 Rice, No. 4 Louisiana Tech and No. 5 Florida Atlantic earned first-round byes.
Matches two and three, along with select quarterfinal and semifinal matches and Sunday's championship match will be live streamed on
Track.Tennis.
The conference championship match is slated for 10 a.m. CT on Sunday, April 23.
The No. 38 Panthers finished the regular season 15-4 overall and 3-1 in the C-USA, as FIU has reached the C-USA title match in four of the last seven years (2021, 2018*, 2017, 2016).
FIU won its first Conference USA title in 2018 and looks to add its second in program history upon a stellar regular season that included a 10-match win streak from Feb. 26 through Apr. 2, finishing undefeated at home (9-0) for the first time since 2018 and collecting four ranked wins this season.
