Baseball Comes Up Short Against FAU in Series Decider, 8-4

Ryne Guida hits home run in consecutive games

BOCA RATON, Fla. (April 29, 2023) – The FIU baseball team faced off against Florida Atlantic on Saturday night in the second game of the C-USA series, falling to the Owls, 8-4, after keeping pace with the rival for most of the game.

The Panthers were on the board first taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the second.

Henry Wallen stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and drove in a run after the Owls failed to turn a double play. Noel Perez scored the second run with a RBI sacrifice fly to right.

The Owls would get one back in their half of the second after Spencer Rich hit a RBI single through the left side, making the score 2-1.

Alec Sanchez kept his on-base streak alive with a walk in the top of the third, reaching safely in 24-straight games.

FAU would take the lead in the bottom of the third, 3-2.

With the bases loaded and an out on the board, Bryan Pazos forced a ground ball to second but an error would allow two runs to score.

Ryne Guida would tie the game at 3-3 after hitting a solo home run in the top of the fifth, his second home run of the series.

Florida Atlantic would retake the lead in the bottom of the sixth off a two-run home run by Christian Adams.

FAU added three runs in the seventh on a bases-loaded ground out by John Schroeder and a two-run single by Mitchell Hartigan, pushing their advantage to 8-3.

The Panthers kept hopes alive in the bottom of the ninth with a Dante Girardi RBI single, but would fall 8-4.
