Women’s Soccer Steam Past Nicholls State, 7-0

Panthers open season with most goals in opening two games.

THIBODAUX, La. – Three different players scored two goals as FIU rolled to a 7-0 victory at Nicholls State on Sunday afternoon at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.
 
The win moves the Panthers to 2-0 on the season and the 13 goals over the last two games marks the most in program history in the opening two games of a season.
 
FIU struck first in the sixth minute as sophomore Noemi Paquin found the back of the net off a corner kick, for her second score of the season.
 
As the Panthers continued to dominate possession in the first half, junior Nikole Solis fired the first of her two goals following assists by sophomores Breayln Vamille and Cat Rap.
 
Solis did not go away as in the 32nd minute, as she added her second goal of the afternoon on a find from sophomore Kennedy Floyd. A minute later, sophomore Kim Schneider added with her third score in the opening two matches, to cap off the first 45 minutes, 4-0.
 
The Blue & Gold continued their offensive outburst in the second half, highlighted by a pair of goals from junior Izelle Barriere on a penalty score in the 55th and a free kick goal in the 59th minute.
 
Floyd finished off the historic afternoon in the 86th minute on a penalty kick goal.
 
FIU outshot Nicholls State 18-5 and notched back-to-back games shutouts to open the 2023 campaign.
 
Solis led the way with a pair of goals and an assist on the afternoon.
 
Through the first two games, the Panthers have a total of seven players that are in the goal column and four players with Two or more goals (Barriere, Paquin, Solis, Schnieder).
 
With the victory, FIU is now 2-0, which is the best start for program since the 1998 season.

The Panthers will be back in action with the home opener on Thursday, August 24 vs. Jacksonville University in a 7 p.m. ET start from FIU Soccer Stadium. It can be streamed on ESPN+.
