MIAMI (August 7, 2023) - FIU throwers Michaelle Valentin and Blake Orr have continued their spring success into the summer, with each earning a bronze medal an international competitions. Valentin took third at the NACAC U23 Games in the discus and hammer, while Orr also earned a third place mark at the U20 Pan-American Games. 

Valentin earned Haiti's first medal in the U23 competition at the NACAC games and became the first athlete ever from Haiti to earn two medals in an international event. Valentin is coming off a spring season in which she earned second-team All-American honors in the discus with a 10th place mark at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. 

Orr's bronze in Puerto Rico of 65.12m surpassed his spring best of 62.24m, which was set at the Jesse Owens Track and Field Classic in April en route to a fifth place finish at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships. Orr also placed third at the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships in Eugene in July. 

"We're proud of what Michaelle and Blake have accomplished this summer," said FIU head coach Ryan Heberling. "They continue to put the work in and develop, and these competitions will go a long way for their growth moving forward."
