Women’s Soccer Falls to FGCU 1-0 on Sunday Night

Panthers lose their second game on the campaign

MIAMI –  The FIU women's soccer's team battled in the first 45, before falling short in the second half, losing 1-0 to the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles on Sunday night from FIU Soccer Stadium.

The Panthers (5-2-1, 0-0 CUSA) and Eagles made it a close contest in the first half with each team recording four shots and four impactful saves by goalkeeper Ithaisa Vinoly to keep it scoreless.

In the second half, FGCU got on the board in the 72nd minute when Erika Zschuppe found the bottom right corner of the net to make it 1-0.

FIU tried to rally back with three shots on goal in the last 18 minutes, but came up short.

On the night, the Panthers recorded a total of eight shots on goal with sophomores Brealyn Viamille and Catherine Rapp tallying a pair each.

Vinoly notched eight saves, her season-high, eclipsing the seven saves she recorded against Mississippi State on Aug. 27.
