Women's Soccer Dominates in Second Half, Picks Up Road Win at Sam Houston

FIU improves to a season-best seven wins.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The FIU women's soccer team scored three goals in the second half to secure a 3-0 shutout victory on the road Thursday night against the Sam Houston Bearkats.

The Panthers (7-2-1) notched goals in the 50th, 59th and 76th minute to seal their third win of the road this season.

With the victory, it marks the best 10-game start since the 1993 season.

It was a battle in the first 45 minutes as both teams were held scoreless with just seven shots combined from each team.

FIU picked up the pace offensively in the 50th minute as on a corner kick by sophomore Kim Schneider, junior Reagan Brides headed the ball that rolled to the back of the net for the score. For Bridges, she notched her second goal and header on the season.

Into the 59th minute, FIU was on the attack when junior Nikole Solis tried to cross the ball to graduate student Camille Sahirul that was then deflected off the goalie hands, allowing Sahirul for an open net goal. The graduate student has picked up goals in back-to-back games.

The final tally came around in the 79th minute as on a free kick, junior Farah El-Tayar scored a header inside of the 18 on a masterful assist from Schneider to secure the third goal.

On the night, FIU recorded seven shots with five coming in the second half. Schneider paced the team with two shots on goal and a pair of assists, a career-high in a single game for the Herford, Germany native.

In net, graduate student Ithaisa Vinoly registered three saves in the clean-sheet victory while notching her fifth shutout of the season.
