MIAMI – The swimming & diving program is set for a new season as they open up the campaign with a dual meet against the Miami Hurricanes on Wednesday, Sep. 27 from the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center.

The Panthers are coming off their first year in the American Athletic Conference, which saw them place second in the AAC Championship, just points shy to the eventual winner Houston.
"It is always a great way to start out the year in a dual-meet versus Miami," FIU swimming & diving head coach
Randy Horner said. "The ladies have been doing nothing but training, so it is good to get into the pool and see what we have."
FIU returns 20 letterwinners & bring in 10 new faces onto the roster including seven freshman. Among the returners sophomore
Nicole Frank returns after having a standout freshman campaign, being named the 2023 AAC Freshman of the Year after winning the 400-individual medley in the AAC championships.
Senior
Christie Chue bring her veteran presence after being named an All-American Honorable Mention, while setting program records last season in the 100-breast with a 59.10 and 16
th overall.
Graduate students
Delaine Goll and
Mia Zahab return for their fifth season donning the Blue & Gold.
"Excited about our new freshman and newcomers of the team, seeing represent FIU," Horner added.
Among the newcomers is three new divers including graduate student
Paige Burrell, who spent her previous four season at University of North Carolina and
Mikaela Starr, from the University of Indianapolis.
"Our sole focus of the season is to prepare our team to be the best we can be at the end of the year. This is a check in balance along the way to see where we are at and race," Horner detailed. "We are pretty fired up and excited, looking forward to getting started."
LAST TIME OUT
Both FIU and Miami have competed in 11 dual meets dating back to the 2014-2015 season with the Panthers having the edge, 6-5.
In last season's meet, the Hurricanes won 196-103 from Coral Gables as swimmers
Christie Chue,
Mia Zahab and
Harliai Curthoys-Davies had strong performances on the afternoon in the breaststroke, butterfly, and freestyle.
The last meet victory for the Panthers came on January 22, 2021 in a 22-point victory.
FIU holds the edge from their home with a 4-2 record from the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center.
