Miami, Fla. – FIU Women's Soccer (11-4, 6-1 CUSA) get back in the win column against University of Texas - El Paso (4-8-3, 1-5-1 CUSA), beating the Miners 2-0, with both goals coming from Brealyn Viamille. The win marks the sixth conference win for FIU this season, the most CUSA victories since joining the conference in 2013.
In what has been a trend all season, the Panthers pressed their foot on the gas early, with Brealyn Viamille finding a seam and getting her shot saved before taking the rebound and putting up the first score for FIU in the match. The goal was the junior's second of the season, with her first coming in a victory over Sam Houston.
The Panther defense led by seniors Delinda Sehlin and Reagan Bridges played well as they have all year, allowing just two shots in the first half and zero shots on goal. Junior Elizabeth Rapp, as well as the aforementioned Sehlin and Bridges, all played 90 minutes in the contest.
FIU went into the half with a 1-0 lead over the Miners.
The second half started exactly as the first half did, a goal by Brealyn Viamille. Senior Noemi Paquin fed Viamille with a pass into the box, which the Illinois native Viamille promptly placed into the net, her second goal of the match. It is the most multi-goal performance of her collegiate career, and at three goals is the most she has scored in a season since joining FIU in 2021. For Paquin, it is her third assist of the season.
The Miners had chances to score in the second half, getting off five shots but no shots on goal and no scores, a testament to the physical defense played by the Panthers.
It is the seventh time this year FIU has pitched a shutout, and the fourth time in seven conference games that the Panthers have not allowed a goal. It is goalkeeper Valery Restrepo's fifth recorded shutout of the season, tied for the most in CUSA.
The Panthers have allowed just 12 goals this season, the second fewest in CUSA so far this season.
