Miami, Fla. – FIU Women's Soccer (11-4-1, 6-1-1 CUSA) drew their first match of the season Sunday afternoon against Western Kentucky (3-7-5, 1-2-5 CUSA), 0-0.
The Panthers and Hilltoppers, both allowing the first and second fewest goals in the conference during conference play, continued to play gritty defense as has been both teams' trademarks all season. Neither team eclipsed five shots in the first half, with FIU shooting four times, and WKU shooting three times with one shot on goal.
The second half was much of the same, with the Panthers once again leading the shot contest with five shots and two shots on goal in the second half, and the Hilltoppers with three shots.
It is the eighth time this season and fifth time during conference play FIU has shutout their opponent. It is the sixth recorded shutout for sophomore Valery Restrepo this season, also saving three shots on goal to put her total saves on the season at 31.
The Panthers will have another chance to win the CUSA Regular Season Championship with a victory in their final contest of the season.
