DAYTONA BEACH, Fla - On the road Tuesday night, the FIU baseball program (3-1) fell to the Bethune Cookman Wildcats, 10-3, from Jackie Robinson Stadium in thier first midweek matchup of the season.
Bethune Cookman took a 5-0 lead after three innings, before the Panthers railed back in the ffith inning as
Brylan West continued his offensive hot start with a RBI triple to right centerfield while
Ryne Guida deposited his sixth RBI of the early season on a single to cut the deficit to three.
However, the Wildcats responded with two more runs in the bottom half of the fifth on a Manny Souffrain two-run base knock backing up their lead to five. The Panthers answered in the seventh on a
Alex Ulloa two-run double, making it a 7-4 ballgame.
Bethune Cookman tacked on three more runs in the seventh, holding on for a six-run victory.
Richie Pena (0-1) earned the start for the Panthers, going three innnings, allowing three earned and punched out a pair of Wildcats.
Jaydon Bishop made his Panthers debut giving up one earned run in an inning of work, while
Bryce Greene worked 1.2 innings, allowing a hit and struck out two.
West, who was named the reigning CUSA Hitter of the Week added with a three-hit night including a triple and a RBI. He has now started his season with 13 hits in his first 16 at-bats.
Guida logged a three-hit performance while Ulloa notched a pair of hits on Tuesday night.
