Women’s Basketball to Host Stetson in Opening Round of Postseason WNIT on Thursday

Panthers and Hatters to tip off at Ocean Bank Convocation Center at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday, March 21

MIAMI, Fla. – The FIU women's basketball team will host Stetson in an opening round match up of the 2024 Postseason WNIT on Thursday, March 21 beginning at 7 p.m. ET at Ocean Bank Convocation Center in Miami.
 
The winner of Thursday's opening round game will advance to the second round of the 48-team event to face Troy. 
 
The second-round game site and date are to be determined but is expected to take place between March 23-26.
 
The Panthers (20-11) completed the program's best regular season in over a decade in 2023-24, winning 20 games and earning their highest seed in the CUSA Championship since joining the league in 2013.
 
This will mark the Panthers' eighth appearance in the Postseason WNIT – with the most recent coming in 2013.  FIU and Stetson previously squared off in the Postseason WNIT during the opening round of 2012 – which saw the Panthers post a 75-47 victory.
 
FIU faced Florida in the opening round of the 2013 Postseason WNIT, falling 75-68. The farthest an FIU team has ever advanced in the Postseason WNIT is round two, having won first-round contests in 1993, 2006 and 2012.
 
Stetson received an automatic berth after winning the Atlantic Sun regular season title and an overall record of 17-14.  The Hatters lost the Atlantic Sun Championship Game to Austin Peay by a 49-45 margin.
 
The 2024 Postseason WNIT field features 11 automatic qualifiers and 37 teams at-large selections, chosen after consideration of a mix of criteria by WNIT officials. There are 24 teams with 20 or more victories in the bracket.
 
This marks the 26th edition of the Postseason WNIT, powered by Triple Crown Sports and first held in 1998.
 
The tournament field is made up of 11 automatic qualifiers and 37 at-large programs, flexing a mix of Power Four conferences as well as ascending mid-major programs.
