BOWLING GREEN, Ky - The FIU Baseball team fell in the middle game Saturday afternoon to the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, falling 14-4 from Nick Denes Field.
FIU jumped out to an 1-0 lead in the second on a RBI single from
Ronny Medina, who has four hits so far in the CUSA weekend series.
Western Kentucky tacked on four runs on a grand slam in the third, making it a 4-1 ballgame.
FIU cut the deficit in half on a RBI double from
Jeff Liquori to add to his team-leading 26th RBI of the year.
The Hilltoppers racked up a pair of RBI singles in the fifth and sixth to end their lead to 6-2.
In the seventh,
Kishon Frett hit his team-leading eighth homer of the year, marking homers in back-to-back games from Bowling Green.
Western Kentucky added three in the seventh, before adding five in the eighth to secure the run-rule victory to put the series at one game a piece.
Owen Puk was tagged with the loss, going three innings of work with four earned runs and four strikeouts.
Kevin Martin allowed an earned run over two innings of work while striking out three.
Liquori posted a second game in the series with a multi-hit effort up to 14 hits and ten RBIs in his past seven games.
Austin Dearing extended his on-base streak to 11 games.
